Rising Blood Moon
The G.E.M.A Collins series
Prologue
My Father works with governments around the world, his work is top secret, it involves working with military personnel and he has top scientists and geneticists working under his direction.
He set up the Paranormal Defence Team after discovering that my mother was a wolf shifter. He discovered this whilst she was giving birth – to me. Now I work for him, helping to prevent catastrophic devastation to the human race whenever a disaster strikes, whether it’s a natural occurring disaster or one that belongs to the supernaturals of the world.
I’m not your average human. I was born a half breed, not a term that I’m particularly fond of, but now, I’m so much more. My DNA was genetically modified by my Father for the good of humankind, and my powers supersede the paranormals of the world. I can shape shift into any animal that has been added to my DNA. I can create fire, manipulate the earth or the air around me and I have a few other tricks up my sleeve, all thanks to my Fathers love of science and determination to create a powerful multi-shifter. I don’t like to think of myself as a weapon per se, but when the need arises, I will use everything in my arsenal to protect the human race, and my job is about to get more interesting given the impending Penumbral Tri Lunar Eclipse. To you and me the Rising Blood Moon, when each paranormal race will be driven by insatiable blood lust.
My Father has worked tirelessly to create the ultimate vaccine, his last attempts had failed and the result was a catastrophic loss to the human race and the supernatural’s, the results still haunted him and he still blamed himself for the deaths. There were sceptics from humans and the various species, they were the ones who remembered his promises from before, and they were hard to convince that this inoculation wouldn’t fail. I could only hope that the scientists who work for my Father have managed to mass produce a vaccine to combat the effects of the Rising Blood Moon, before the shit well and truly hits the fan.
There are three stages to the Eclipse and it happens over a three week period. It happens every 10 years and it has been documented well.
The first stage – A new moon appears and shines brightly in the sky.
The second stage – A second moon appears beside the first one, this one glows an orangey gold.
The third stage – A third moon appears and eclipses the other two moons. It’s considerably larger and glows blood red for two days and nights, there is no natural daylight during this stage of the Penumbral Tri Lunar Eclipse. Instead, the earth is lit up with the moons orangey-red glow. Like a permanent sunset, but darker, more sinister.
Every paranormal being cannot resist the call of the blood lust. Once the 48 hour period is up, the moons stop glowing, the sun penetrates through the moons rays and the three moons slowly fade away, leaving each race counting their losses.
My Father has gone to great lengths to ensure my safety and of those around me, I will be locked away at a safe location for the duration of the eclipse. If I was free I too would be revelling in the carnage, only stopping killing everything in my sights once the moons had faded from the sky and the blood lust was satiated. My enhanced DNA and modified genetics meant that I would be a danger to everyone that I encountered.
I welcomed having the vaccine. I didn’t want to be responsible for killing innocents because I simply wouldn’t be able to stop myself and no other shifter or paranormal being would be sane enough to even try.
This was to be my last task before I would be taken to a secret location, away from civilisation. I would be locked up in a silver holding cage that would contain me. If I tried to break free, I would be doused in everything from fire right through to holy water or acid. I would rather that than kill innocents, my injuries would heal but my prey would still be dead.
